  1. A Bruegel-style panorama: four hill towns linked by roads to one guildhall with a printing press
  3. A Rembrandt-style night scene: a travelling picture-show in a village square, townsfolk watching a lantern projection while a merchant sells tickets at a lit booth
  4. A Vermeer-style interior: a council talks at a table while a clerk by the window writes their decisions into a ledger
  6. A Jan Steen-style inn: guests arriving at a counter, room keys on hooks, servants carrying trays to the tables
  7. A Botticelli-style allegory of Impartial Truth holding a balance with equal piles of scrolls in each pan
  8. A Leiden fine-painting study: a scholar traces the street projected by a camera obscura, drawings of eyes on the wall
  10. A Velázquez-style weaving workshop: women untangle a heap of coloured threads beneath one clear finished tapestry

  1. A Jan Brueghel-style Noah's Ark: animals in pairs on the gangplank while Noah checks a compass and chart
  2. A Georges de La Tour-style candlelit room: one flame passed from candle to candle until dozens glow
  3. A Teniers-style alchemist melting many small objects in a crucible into one gleaming shape
  4. An Arcimboldo-style profile portrait made of books, quills, gears, keys and birds, in an oval frame

things I made because I wanted them to exist

  1. A Dutch breakfast still life of coffee makers painted as old-master objects: moka pot, French press, pour-over, siphon and cezve
  2. A forest floor in cross-section: mushroom clusters above ground linked by glowing golden mycelium threads below
  3. A Flemish gallery picture: walls hung floor to ceiling with paintings, connoisseurs stringing red threads between them
  4. A Dutch Golden Age street of little shops, each handing one customer a parcel made for them, while a woman watches a tiny shop unfold from the phone in her hand
  5. A Jan Brueghel-style allegory of the Earth: scholars weigh soil, study plants and measure a globe before making claims
